Ishmael Phipps, 97, passed away Saturday April 29, 2017 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born on April 3, 1920 in Clinton, Indiana to the late Roy and Mary L. (Ruby) Phipps. Ishmael served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and married Mary Louise Cassidy on April 3, 1942. He worked several different jobs in the area, including McCurdy’s, Timberland, and the Ayres McCarel Clay Company. Ish enjoyed traveling, watching Cardinal baseball, gardening, watching birds, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise; brothers, James, Homer, Lawrence, Harmon, Everett, Wayne Phipps; sisters, Ester Hartman, Lucy Swaim, Gladys Hartman, Leatha Shoaf; grandsons, Stephen Knox and Troy Fields; and son-in-law, Bob Fields.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
