S. Rahim Farid

S. Rahim Farid passed away at the age of 92 on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home with his daughter, Jamileh, and family by his side.  He was born in Zanjan, Iran in 1925, the son of Ayatollah Haj Seyed Reza Farid Zanjani and Hashemieh Farid.  He completed medical school and began practicing surgery in Ghom, Iran in 1948.  He then applied for residency in the United States and was accepted at Newark General Hospital in 1953.  He travelled back to Iran in 1957 and was the chief surgeon in a number of hospitals in Tehran, Iran. In 1960 he returned to the United States and began practicing in Oneonta, New York. He then moved to Brazil, Indiana in 1961 and began practicing surgery with Dr. Frank Mauer.  That was where he stayed for the remainder of his life.  In 1967 he was elected to the Clay County school board.   He later was appointed to be the medical director of the Clay County Health Department.  He retired from medicine in 2005.  

Dr. Farid will be remembered for his generosity. He not only helped the needy but also encouraged young students to achieve academic success.  Dr. Farid was a compassionate, responsible, and honest man both in his professional and personal life.  His pleasant disposition was enjoyed by everyone.  S. Rahim Farid Lake was named in his honor due to his social contributions and dedication to the city of Brazil. He will be missed by his 5 children 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Special thanks to his daughter Jamileh Farid-Houston and her husband Randy whose compassionate care extended his life beyond expectation. He will be buried beside his mother in RestLawn cemetery in Brazil, IN, on December 28, 2017.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
