Dorcas (Lehman) Sutherland

Brazil, Indiana

Dorcas Sutherland, 91, went to be with the Lord, July 30, 2019 at her home with her family at her side. She was born on August 20, 1927 in Ontario, Canada to the late Daniel and Bertha (Groh) Lehman. Dorcas graduated from Orville High School in Ohio, and later from Ft. Wayne Bible College. She married Harold Sutherland on June 30, 1951, together they worked with the American Sunday School Union supporting rural Sunday schools in southern Indiana. They also helped found the Calvary Baptist Church in Vincennes, where they lived for over 40 years. Dorcas was a member of the World Gospel Church in Terre Haute, and ran a small dog kennel raising various breeds of puppies through the years.

In her free time she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, watching Christian television and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her son Daniel Sutherland.

Dorcas’s family would like to thank Intrepid hospice for their care and compassion. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 3, 2019 at World Gospel Church (900 Gardendale Road, Terre Haute, Indiana) with Pastor Alfy Austin officiating and burial to follow at Van Cleve Cemetery in Brazil. The family will accept friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
