Fred Burk Jr

Fred H. Burk, Jr., age 81 of Terre Haute, IN died April 18, 2011 at Union Hospital following a massive heart attack at his home.

He was born September 29, 1929 in Brazil, IN as the son of Fred H. and Loretta Lucille Harris Burk Sr. He graduated from Brazil High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Mary E. Porter February 4, 1951.

Fred Jr. worked at the Brazil Gas Company then at P R Mallory in Greencastle and then he moved on to International Harvester/Navistar where he worked for 18 years until his retirement in 1990. Fred Jr. and Mary were also foster parents for 32 years. Fred Jr. was known as “Candy Man” when he managed the concession stand in Forest Park for several years during the 4-H Fair. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Brazil.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Timmy Joe and James David Burk; and his in-laws, Clint and Audrie Porter.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; daughter, Debbie Rao (Achuta); son, Dennis Burk (Sue) of Reelsville; granddaughter, SuSheela Rao;; grandsons, Jason Burk, Joshua Burk, and Jerremy Burk; step grandchildren, Tiffiany Archer (Kevin), Tiffany Archer, and Shane Ake; 3 great grandchildren, Chase and Elizabeth Burk, and Esphono Gerberkiden.

He is also survived by one sister, Barbara Ferry (Jim) and their daughter, Jana Trusler; brothers-in-law, James Porter (Helen), Col. Harry Porter (Ann), and David Porter; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Lawson (Don), Jean Cox (Wayne), and Rebecca Bass; and other extended family.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday with Bro. Jim Porter officiating with burial at Calcutta Cemetery.
