Ivan Schopmeyer, 73, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Brazil on August 18, 1945 to the late James and Ruth (Hoffa) Schopmeyer. Ivan graduated from Van Buren High School in 1963, and attended Indiana State University from 1963-1966. Mr. Schopmeyer served his country in the Unites States Army during the Vietnam War, and was highly decorated for his service. Also while in the military he served as one of the guards for President Nixon. Ivan was a life long member of the Zion United Church of Christ.
Ivan loved farming, and was an avid sponsor of the Clay County 4H. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, watching NASCAR and spending time with friends and family. Ivan was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Schopmeyer, Son-in-law, Steven Pickett, and his second wife, and mother of his children, Mary Christine Schopmeyer.

Brother: David (Nellye) Schopmeyer, Center Point, Indiana

Several Nieces, Nephews, and other extended family
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday March 23, 2019 at Zion United Church of Christ in Poland with burial with military honors to follow at Zion Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or the Wounded Warrior Project, envelopes will be available at the church.
