John Herbert

John “Poppy” Herbert, 70, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  He was born in Brazil, Indiana to the late Robert Lee Herbert and Clara (Wells) Herbert.  He was raised in Carbon, attended the Carbon School House, and later graduated from Van Buren High School. He received both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree from Indiana State University.  John  began his teaching career in Mecca Indiana and then went on to teach at the Plainfield Correctional Facility for 36 years.  He was married to Patricia (Drake) Herbert, his wife of 48 years, in 1969.

    John enjoyed restoring old cars and going to antique car shows.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and took every opportunity to teach them new things.  John was always an excellent provider for his large family.

                     Randy and his wife Debbie Herbert, Brazil, Indiana

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday January 6, 2018 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Dick McShanog officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.  The family will accept friends for visitation on Friday January 5, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M and again on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Riley Children's Hospital.
