Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert Lee Johnson, age 83, of Brazil, Indiana, died Friday, October 5, 2018 at St Vincent Clay Hospital surrounded by family.

 

Robert Johnson was born September 7, 1935 in Brazil, Indiana.  He was the son of Forrest Johnson and Mayme (Killion) Johnson. He graduated from Brazil High School, thereafter, served in the US Navy  1953-1956, aboard the USS Samuel B. Robertson. He completed an around the world cruise in 1954-1955.

 

He worked at IBM, in quality control and Xerox Corporation as a technician.

 

While at IBM he met the love of his life Betty Lou (Phillips) Johnson (love at first sight) they married December 14, 1957. They went on to have two children, Phillip Ethan Johnson and Marlene Johnson Lenz. 

 

Robert was an active member of the local Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brazil since 1958.

 

He loved the outdoors, specifically gardening and fishing and spending time with his family and of course his dear friends. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Johnson, Daughter, Marlene (Johnson) Lenz and husband Stephen of Brazil; Granddaughter Brittania (Lenz) Whitaker and husband (Blake) of  Indianapolis, Grandaughter Jacquelyn (Johnson) Griffin  and husband Jerry. Sister, Loretta (Johnson) Slater of Greencastle. Great Grandchildren, Jadyn Griffin, Heath Whitaker, Roman Whitaker, Vienna Whitaker and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Forrest Johnson Jr. and Bernard Johnson; sister Mary Ruth (Johnson) Cox; son, Phillip Ethan Johnson.

 

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday October 13, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 2731 US 40 Brazil Indiana. Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with Robert’s cremation arrangements.
