Barbara (Wells) Carpenter

Barbara Carpenter, 88, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026 at her home in Brazil surrounded by family. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on April 15, 1938 to the late  John Wells and Mildred (Handlin) Jones. Barbara married Kenneth Carpenter on November 7, 1958, and was a member of the Higher Ground Christian Center.

Barbara loved spending time with her grandchildren, often playing Rook and Euchre and making sure they won. She enjoyed cooking, and baking, and spent her free time oil painting. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; sibilings Larry Jones, and Carolyn McLain; as well as her infant son, Steven Carpenter.

Survivors include her son, Mike (Ruth) Carpenter; daughter, Sherry (Faron) Richard; grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Sirratt, Heather (Matthew) Smith, and Brandy (Mat) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Ethan Thompson, Rory and Mia Smith.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Higher Ground Christian Center. The family will accept friends for visitation on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with her cremation arrangements.
