Brazil, Indiana

Charles “Charlie” Brown, 77, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 surrounded by his family in hospice care. He was born in Enterprise, Alabama on August 2, 1947 to the late Fred and Mary Ann (Granberry) Brown. Charlie graduated from Brazil High School in 1966, and married Margaret “Peggy” McKinney on January 20, 1968. He retired from Allison Engine in 1996. Charlie served Clay County for a total of 36 years, holding the title of Township Trustee, County Commissioner, County Surveyor, as well as being a County Councilman. He was also an auctioneer, and volunteer firefighter that helped found the Jackson Township Fire Department. Charlie was CYFL for many years.

Charlie was known for telling his tall tales, and always having a joke. In his free time he enjoyed going to yard sales, Goodwill, and collecting treasures. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; brother, Larry Brown; sister Peggy Ricks, and his granddaughter Keera Snoddy.

Survivors include his son, Pat (Shannon) Brown; daughter, Jennifer (Wade) Snoddy; brother, Phillip Brown; sister, Fleta (Tim) Van Ness; grandchildren, Harrison Snoddy, Hunter Brown, Alexandria Brown, and Emma Brown; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Dennis Holley officiating. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest in Summit Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
