David O. Hawkins, age 73 of Seelyville, Indiana passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at his residence. He was born on June 4, 1949 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Raymond and Rudell (Sanders) Hawkins. Dave was a graduate of Georgetown High School in the Class of 1967. He joined the United States Army in 1969 serving with Company A, 4th Battalion of the 25th Infantry during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged after earning two Commendation Medals for Valor, and has since been recognized as a 100% disabled veteran for his exposure to Agent Orange during the war.
He retired from Conrail in 1999 after working for 25 years as an Investigative Detective. Dave was an active member of ABATE for 22 years, serving as the Region 12 Director for 19 years and on the Board of Directors for 18 years. He was a long time member of VFW Post 972, American Legion Post 0328 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; daughter, Sara (James); Step-Daughter, Angela (Tom); Step-Son, Brad; Grandchildren, Bradley Allen, Nicholas (Hannah), Amber (Andrew), Breanna and Kyleigh; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam and Mike, as well as sister, Myra.
Moore Funeral Home in Brazil was entrusted with Dave’s cremation arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
