David Earl Hicks Obituary

Poland, Indiana

David Earl Hicks, 84, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at his home in Poland. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on October 20, 1940 to the late Irvin and Helen (Hughey) Hicks. David graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City before serving his country in the United States Navy and the Coast Guard. He married Marjorie Sly on June 2, 1973, and retired as a corrections officer at the Putnamville State Correctional Facility.

David enjoyed working with his hands, it didn’t matter if it was carpentry, electrical or mechanical. He also loved spoiling his wife, dogs, as well as spending time with his family. David was preceded in death by his brother, Irvin Hicks and sister Sharon Goode.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Hicks; daughters, Christi (Lee) Hicks, Kimberly (Brian) Stearley, and Melissa (Jack) Hicks-Giles; brothers, Harry (Deborah) Hicks and James (Stacie) Hicks; sister, Julia (Ric) Roll; grandchildren, Alan (Lynsey) Payne, Elizabeth (Christian) Rigney, Karissa (Max) Givens, Paul Givens, and Isaac Hastings; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Abal Rigney; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 27, 2024 in the Bill Webster Memorial Chapel at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor John Pierce officiating and burial with military honors to follow at Zion Cemetery in Poland. The family will accept friends for visitation on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
