David L. Lewis, 82, passed from this life into the sure and certain promise of the next on June 8, 2026. He came to his beloved Brazil, Indiana on July 4, 1996 and was never more content than as a Hoosier. His most treasured pastime was finding out for himself what he thought by writing stuff like this.

All that he was good was owed to his parents who preceded him. By extension, therefore, any of what was good influence on his children is due to Philip H and Ruth Lillian Lewis. Any problems with grandkids and/or great-grandkids being fault of their respective parents.

He had an older brother, Terry, who was “big brother’ for too few years. He had a sister, Diane, who is what every boy should have in a sister if he was going to grow up in 1950’s - even though she was a kook and left-handed.

He met the love of his life on February 12, 1965 and they were married the following November 6th. She stood by him in much infirmity and transitory health, with only spiritual riches and too much very painful poverty. On his part, he never looked back or to the right hand or the left, nor had reason or wishes to do so.

Together they had five amazingly superior children, four sons and one daughter. A group of more diverse people one would be hard to find on a big city jury. Their boys and spouses are Kenneth and Kerri Jo, Nathan and Lori, Matthew and Christie, and Benjamin and Lisa. The world’s most nearly perfect daughter and her husband are Susan and Steve Skelton. Shortly before this self-eulogy was conceived and committed to per our second son, Nathan, passed from this life. Death of a son being something for which no man has been created to well endure.

From this brood have come 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The only thing important to him was his family; the only thing he was ever good at was to love his wife, children, and grandchildren. As he said and believed, “the only I am is me, and I’m not very good at that.”

David L. Lewis was an observer of and sometimes a commentator on life who may be reached when you, too, pass from this life.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 15, 2026 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Mike Bennett officiating and burial to follow at Clearview Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
