Evelyn Ruth Newport, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at her home in Clay City surrounded by family. She was born on May 30, 1945 in Orange County to the late James and Lydia Lavina (Tincher) Passmore. Evelyn attended Huron High School and married Robert Newport on November 14, 1980. She worked for RCA before retiring from Boston Scientific after 22 years. In her free time, Evelyn loved attending races, listening to country music, tending to her flower garden, and decorating for Christmas. Most importantly, she loved spending time with family, especially family cookouts that she never missed.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her son, Ricky D. King; brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Charles “Chuck”, Robert, Ralph, Jimmy Passmore; and sister, Lena May Passmore. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Robert Newport of Clay City; sons, Jeffrey (Shelly) King of Heltonville, Indiana, Greg King of Clay City; daughters, Shelly (Tony) Terrell of Huron, Indiana, Debbie King of Bedford, Indiana, Cheryl King of Patricksburg, Indiana; brothers, Ronald (Karen) Passmore, Roy “Butch” (Pat) Passmore, Larry “Plug” (Linda) Passmore, all of Mitchell, Indiana; sisters, Jean Conley of Milford, Ohio, Mary Brewer of Mitchell, Indiana, Vickee Garrison of Ridgeville, Indiana; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor John Pierce officiating. The family will accept friends for visitation from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
