Gerald Ray “Yogi” Strain, 78, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Putnam County on February 11, 1943 to the late Curtiss and Anna Strain. He graduated from Reelsville High School and married Mary Kohler on November 8, 1963. Gerald worked for over 30 years at Mallory’s before retiring to help his son run Hoosier Hills Golf Course. He spent many years coaching baseball where he earned his nickname Yogi.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, and sisters, Carol Butts, Jean Gates, and Doris Dickens.
Survivors include his sons, Jerry Strain of Brazil, and Walter (Sara) Strain of Cory; daughter, Ann (Tony) Vanatti of Brazil; brothers, Donald (Keneen) Strain of Indianapolis and Richard Strain of Knightsville; sisters, Lois McKinney of Brazil; grandchildren, Chad (Crystal Orndorff) Vanatti, Chris (Holly) Vanatti, Curt Vanatti, Sheena Strain, and Josh (Kenzi) Strain; great-grandchildren, Parker, Zyler, Kasyn, Jaxton, Lincoln, Claire, and Andrew; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday October 26, 2021 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Speck West officiating and burial to follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
