Hazel Lucille Green, 96, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute. She was born on June 13, 1926 in Clay County to the late Leo O. and Joy Agnes (Matherly) Hofmann. Hazel graduated from Brazil High School in the class of 1944, and married John Green the following year. She attended My Lady Academy of Cosmetology and worked as a hairdresser for 31 years. Hazel was a long time member of Brazil First United Methodist Church. In her free time, Hazel enjoyed painting, sewing, crocheting and upholstering. She briefly sold sewing machines at her fabric shop in Clay City, and also briefly sold real estate.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husbands, John Green, Clair Gassoway, and William Morthland; brothers, Leo J. and Donald Hofmann. Survivors include her children, Linda (Jim) Minnick of Knightsville, Indiana, John T. (Sharon) Green of Marshall, Illinois; grandchildren, Lynne (Shelley) Caldwell of Camas, Washington, Teresa (Greg) Wilkins of Danville, Indiana, Trina (Darrin) Myers of Cory, Indiana, Derek (Keri) Green of Dorsey, Illinois, Jarod (Jody) Green of Marshall, Illinois, Jeremy (Alisa) Green of Dennison, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Aidan (Sarah) Wilkins, Collin (Chelsey) Wilkins, Lauryn Myers, Reilly Myers, Theo Caldwell, Jocelyn (Jacob) Green, Jonathan Green, Jackson Green, Elaina Green, Justin Green, Kellan Green, Miles Green; brother, Harold C. (Sue) Hofmann of Brazil, Indiana; as well as several extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Kerry Clear officiating. The family will accept friends for visitation from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
