Howard Akers, 73, passed away Monday, March 31, 2025 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born in Holland, Michigan on August 9, 1951 to the late Gene and Luella (Knoll) Akers. Howard graduated from Staunton High School in 1969, and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Sharon Ellis on December 14, 1984, and worked as a machinist until retirement at AP Machine in Terre Haute.
Howard could fix or build anything, he built his home, and spent his free time building motorcycles and repairing anything that was broken. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, making stained glass and spending time with his wife and pets. Howard was preceded in death by his brother, Harlan Akers; and step-father, Donald Newby.
Survivors include his wife Sharon Akers; and his sister Diane Akers; step-brother, Phil (Marcia) Sherry-Newby; step-sisters, Joan (Mark) McAvoy, and Linda (Dan) Derrow; sister-in-laws, Donna (Jim) McAllister, Linda Persinger, Laura (James) Ahlborn, Sheila Benson and Carrie Akers; nephew, Wade Akers; as well as several other nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Moore Funeral Home in Brazil was entrusted with Howard’s cremation arrangements.
