James “Jim” Decker, 82, went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2026 on his and Nancy’s 58th Wedding Anniversary. He was born in Brazil, Indiana on October 5, 1943 to the late Mack and Marcia (Tibbits) Decker. Jim graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1961, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Indiana State University, and excelled in running cross country and track in both high school and college. He served his country in the Indiana National Guard, and married Nancy Scharf on June 30, 1968 at the Union E.U.B. Church in Brazil. Jim worked in retail management for Roots, and later L.S. Ayres and Macy’s, and retired in 2007 after 40 years.
He was a member of the Agape Christian Church, where he served as an elder, a deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. Jim was a kind, gentle man of honor with a firm, sincere handshake. He enjoyed anything outdoors, camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. As well as spending time with family, bird watching and running. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Decker, sister-in-laws, Jane (Hub) Mershon, and Betty Scharf.
Left to honor Jim are his loving wife, Nancy Decker; daughter, Angi (Brady) Hansel; son, Todd (Abby) Decker; grandchildren, Decker and Kalena Hansel, Sam and Ellie Decker; sister-in-law, Margret Decker; brother-in-law, Bill Scharf; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Jim’s care givers, Crystal and Tammy, as well as the many VNA and Hospice Nurses.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 7, 2026 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with burial to follow at Union Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Monday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
