Joseph Carson Riddell, 60, passed away unexpectedly Friday December 23, 2022 while finishing up some fine details on his daughter’s horse barn. He was born May 9, 1962 in Brazil, Indiana to the late John and Betty (Webster) Riddell. JC graduated from Van Buren High School in 1980 and married Lori Pell on March 29, 1985.
He was a lifelong farmer who loved working on various projects around his farm and his properties. JC’s perfect day would include coffee at Mike Clark’s shop where some of his best friends, Brad Chamberlain, and many others would sit around and talk about the daily news and their next great ideas. He would then head to the shop where we would meet his two kids, Brodie and Brylie as well as best friends and employees Greg Warner, Baylen Souder, and Nick Burger. JC loved nothing more than working beside his son and daughter on the family farm; however, his highlight at the end of the day was to be greeted as paw paw by his two granddaughters and eat a home cooked meal prepared by his daughter-in-law, Lynsey. Many times to finish off his busy days he would grab a beer at Shawn Pell’s (Peck) Pool House. The only things that would break him of his daily routines would be trips down to Florida with his wife, horse events with his daughter, truck pulling with his son, and his Sunday mornings spent with Larry Siples. Although hard headed as they come, JC loved so deeply and made sure his family and friends were always taken care of.
JC was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Billy Pell.
Survivors include his wife, Lori Riddell; son, Brodie (Lynsey) Riddell; daughter, Brylie Riddell; granddaughters, Berkley and Letty Jo Riddell.
A private graveside service will be held at Calcutta Cemetery. A celebration of JC’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or the Make a Wish Foundation.
