Mabel Ann Gerber, 88, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Vigo County on November 17, 1932 to the late James and Mary Jane (Coltharp) Johnson. Mabel attended Brazil High School and graduated in the class of 1950. The following year, Mabel married her life long love, James Gerber, on April 18, 1951, and together they raised six daughters.
Mabel loved helping children and taught preschool and kindergarten in her home before she became a representative for Avon beauty products. She then worked at Cloverleaf Healthcare for more than three decades where she was the activity and social director. Mabel enjoyed yard work, planting flowers, and feeding the birds at her home. She loved her cats, but most importantly Mabel loved when the whole family would get together.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Debra Cox.
Mabel is survived by her husband, James Gerber; daughters, Karen (Eric) Stearley, Janet (Steve) Little, Donna (Jim) Raines, Lisa (Gretta) Childress, Jamie (Doug) Chrisman; Jim (Wanda) Mayle who is like a son; grandchildren, Karen (Tom) Tedder, Chris (Lori) Cox, Ericka (Jason) Layne, Lindsey (Brad) Horn, Steve (Katy) Little, Jr., David (Melissa) Little, Janice Raines-Head, J.R. (Betty) Raines, Neil (Sierra) Taylor, Brandon (Katie) McMahon, Lance (Sara) McMahon; 30 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil, Indiana with her grandson, Brandon McMahon officiating. The family will accept friends for visitation from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Harmony.
