Marvin Leroy Utley, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday September 13, 2023 at his home in Terre Haute. He was born in Terre Haute on October 28, 1943 to the late Lawrence and Hazel (Stevens) Utley. Marvin graduated from Gertsmeyer High School in 1960, served his country in the United States Army Reserves and married Linda Dunbar on December 29, 1965. Marvin was a member of the Plumber and Pipe Fitter’s Local 157, and worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Eli Lilly for 20 years. He also managed to obtain his General Contractor’s License and build his family home. Marvin was an Elder and member of the McKinley Hill Church of Christ, and was also their song leader for many years.

Mr. Utley loved people, he could always be found having a conversation or casual debate about any subject. He enjoyed learning, playing piano, singing and traveling. In his free time he loved hanging out with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle and often talked about his enjoyable times hunting and fishing with his father as a child.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Utley of Terre Haute; sons, Marvin (Lynn) Utley of Indianapolis and Sean (Marcia) Utley of Surprise, Arizona; brothers; Lawrence (Angela) Utley, Anthony (Chery) Utley, Timothy (Theresa) Utley, Charles Utley, Nathaniel Utley and Mike (Angela) Utley; sisters, Wanda Utley, Geraldine (Jim) Brown, and Hazel D. Utley; grandchildren, Logan and Kamryn Utley; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at McKinley Hill Church of Christ (10700 N County Rd 300 E, Brazil, IN 47834) with Pastor Brook Reinoehl officiating and burial to follow at Clearview Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
