Melvin Gene Rogers, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 27, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 24, 1936 to the late Elmer and Tressia (Unger) Rogers. Gene graduated from Cory High School in 1954, earned his Master’s Degree at Indiana State University, and served his country in the Indiana Air National Guard. He was an educator for many years, teaching advanced math and science in the Plainfield, Cascade, and South Putnam school districts, as well as being an adjunct professor at Indiana State University.
Gene was a lifelong Green Bay Packers football and Purdue Boilermaker basketball fan. He enjoyed watching many different sporting events. Gene also took pleasure in his life spent farming, and eating out with friends and family. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren participate in sports and various other events. He was involved in many ministries supporting various churches, and pastors across Indiana through encouragement, evangelism, caring for those in need, and most of all, prayer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 31, 2020 at Cory Community Church of the Nazarene with Brian Rogers officiating and burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil, and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
