Norma Jean Christian, 89, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at home in Brazil. She was born on December 27, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Samuel Norman and Viola Rose (Kline) Allen. Norma Jean graduated from Martinsville High School in 1953. She married Robert Soots Christian on June 6, 1953, and they remained united in marriage until his death on September 22, 2000.

Norma Jean was a homemaker whose life revolved around God and her family. In her early years she enjoyed gardening and canning. Norma Jean loved music, which led her to play the piano and write several songs. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, writing poetry, and playing Scrabble. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; children, Jennifer Christian, Rebekah Soots, David Christian, Johnathan Soots, and Stephen Soots; father, Samuel Norman Allen, Sr; mother, Viola Rose Allen; stepmother, Lottie Mae Allen; brothers, Kenneth Allen, Glenn Allen, Samuel Allen, Jr, and Ronald Allen; and sister, Barbara Allen.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Soots, Jr, Daniel (Karen) Christian, Josiah (Debbie) Christian, Matthew Christian, Thomas (Rachelle) Christian, Kenneth Christian, and Samuel Christian; daughters, Deborah Maesch, Mary (Doug) Christian, Elizabeth Bevis, Sarah Alexander, and Amy (Randy) Peoples; brothers, Melvin Allen and Michael Allen; sisters, Anita Mahaffey Zike, Mary Alice Mahaffey, Cora Johnson, Thelma Allen, and Denise Sprague; forty-two grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in the Bill Webster Memorial Chapel at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Dan Christian officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
