Norma Jean (Shearer) Thomas Obituary

Norma Jean Thomas, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2021 at HutsonWood at Brazil. She was born on May 6, 1933 in Ottawa, Illinois to the late Clayton and Bessie (Smith) Shearer. Norma graduated from Van Buren High School in the class of 1951. She then married Cecil Thomas on July 2, 1954. 

Over the course of her life, Norma worked as a secretary for Clay County Hospital, Dr. Moon, and the WIC office. When she was not working, Norma enjoyed painting, bowling, sewing, crocheting, reading, watching television, and most importantly spending time with her family. 

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Thomas; and daughter, Shirley Thomas. 

Survivors include; her husband of 67 years, Cecil Thomas of Brazil; daughter, Sheryl (Paul) Tidd of West Terre Haute; grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Lugar, Cody (Sujata) Tidd, Alicia (Jake Newton) Hardesty, Ethan Tidd, Shawn Thomas; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Chloe Lugar, Bryson Hardesty, Violet Newton, Logan and Kinslee Tidd, and Lincoln Thomas; as well as other extended family members and friends. 

A private graveside service will be held at Calcutta Cemetery with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating.
