Rachel Ruth Miller, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 18, 2025 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on February 21, 1930 in Hoosierville, Indiana to the late Walter and Bessie (Fisher) Maurey. She started doing domestic work at the age of 11, and at 16 she started working in the B-29 Restaurant. After graduation from Staunton High School in 1949, Ruth went to work as a secretary in Terre Haute. She married Norman Miller on April 17, 1949 and became a farm wife. In 1950 they were blessed with twin daughters Donnie Sue and Bonnie Lou and in 1956 their son Dan was born. Ruth helped milk cows and farm, she also went back to work at Slack Motel. Later she was asked to run for Clerk of Clay County, she was Clerk for 8 years, and deputy for 10 1/2 years. Ruth was also the President of the Democrat Club for several years, a member of the historical society, member of the Perry Township Board, the first woman commissioner of Clay County, a member of the Clay County Homemakers Club, a former member of the Farm Bureau and the Elks 172. Ruth was a member of the Prairie City Church for 80 years, serving on many boards, and teaching Sunday School, she now attends Van Cleve Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 1982, her daughter Bonnie Miller Clark in 1974, and her son Dan in 1998.

Survivors include her daughter, Donnie (Gary) Phillips;  grandchildren, Bonnie (Chris) Jagoditz, Toby (Nicole) Phillips, Brandon (Sarah) Miller, and Kaylee (John) Edwards; great-grandchildren, Jack, Zachary, Xander, Grady, Azalea, Dani Jo, Gavin, Noah, and Lucy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastors Rick Wetnight and John Pierce officiating and burial to follow at Union Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Cleve Community Church.
