As they journeyed together in life, Richard E. Adams, 93, and Shirley A. Adams, 88, journeyed together into death. They passed away within hours of each other on August 16, 2021.
Richard was born January 16, 1928 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Merit E. Adams and Helen L. (Newton) Adams. He received a B.S. from Indiana State Teachers College, and served his country in the Indiana National Guard and the United States Air Force. Richard worked as a teacher for many years, and also as a minister. He also freelanced as a contractor and wood worker. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Shirley A. Adams was born on October 27, 1932 in Clay County, Indiana to Maurice Bain and Lilah (Turner) Bain. She graduated from Staunton High School and earned a B.S. in music from Lincoln Bible Institute. Shirley worked as a book keeper and store manager, but spent most of her years as a stay at home mother. She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Carl Barnhart; and step-brother, William Barnhart.
Richard and Shirley served the Lord in many capacities throughout their lives. They were members of the North Meridian Street Church of Christ in Brazil.They were respected and loved by everyone they knew, and were always interested in helping people in any way they could.
Richard is survived by his brother, Denzil Adams. Richard and Shirley are survived by their children Tim (Kathi) Adams and Dan (Mary) Adams; their grandchildren, Jake (Debra), Katie, Tyler, Brenden, and Sydney; as well as their great-grandson, Jaden.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Rosedale Cemetery in Rosedale, Indiana. The family will accept friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Meridian Street Church of Christ, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
