Robert Eugene Myers

January 13, 1928 ~ November 3, 2019 (age 91)


Robert Eugene Myers, 91, husband to Lois Ellen (DeVoto) Myers, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Westminster Village in Terre Haute.

Born January 13, 1928 in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Roy and Stella Myers.  He was a Registered Pharmacist working most of his years for Hook’s as a store manager and was one of the first pharmacists to work as a Nursing Home consultant.  Over his years as a store manager in Brazil, Indiana he won many awards for sales and overall excellence.

He graduated from Alamo High School in 1946- the same year he was a member of the Montgomery County champion Basketball team.  He was a talented athlete and besides playing basketball at Alamo High was outstanding in baseball as well.  He entered the Army on April 22, 1946 - making sure to marry the love of his life, Lois, a week before he would begin his time of service.  He would end his time in the Army on May 12, 1947.

After his time in the service, he would go on to Wabash to start his studies towards a teaching degree with the idea that he would like to coach.  While at Wabash, he demonstrated a talent for chemistry, biology and health sciences and would leave Wabash to attend Purdue University where he would earn a degree in Pharmacy and graduate in 1956.

Mr. Myers was involved in his community and was a member of many organizations including Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge of Alamo and the Boy Scouts of America.  He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois and one grandchild.  Survivors include his two sons Matt (Mary Jo) Myers of Brazil and Mark (Karla) Myers of Versailles, Kentucky.  Robert is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, his brother Don (Bettie) Myers of Waveland and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be a Moore Funeral Home in Brazil on Wednesday, November 6 form 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Clay County Humane Society. Donation envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.  A graveside memorial service will be held at Bee Ridge Cemetery in Brazil in June of 2020.
