Uba Watler Obituary

Uba Mae Watler, 99, passed away on April 10, 2023, at Select Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born April 16, 1923, to Herbert and Magdalena Grimes, in New Albany, Indiana.

Uba is survived by her daughter Janet (Paul) Storey, and son John Watler II. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Thomas Storey, Rebecca Gentle, John Watler III, Elizabeth Watler, Kali White (George), Donald Watler. Uba also had four great-grandchildren she adored: Andre Gentle, Joshua Gentle, Kambria Watler, and Bennett White. She is also survived by nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Uba was predeceased by her parents; her husband John L Watler Sr.; her son Glen Watler; daughter in law Barbara Watler; her sisters Christina Fish and Margaret Lacefield.

Uba graduated from New Albany High School and enlisted in the United States Navy, where she served until November, 1945. She was a degreed accountant and was a partner of Watler Accounting CPAs PC until her retirement at age 97. She was an integral part of the development and expansion of the Watler offices particularly in the area of firm standards and staff support. Uba loved and appreciated her clients and staff, and maintained those close relationships as long as her health allowed.

Uba’s greatest joy in life was her family and friends, and she enjoyed all activities that revolved around her loved ones. She and her husband John were pilots together, and they also enjoyed designing and building their home together. She loved her work and had many hobbies such as reading, and crocheting. She made afghans for all of the babies born in her family and they are cherished keepsakes to this day. Uba enjoyed life and loved everyone around her. She had a wonderfully dry sense of humor and she always had a candy dish nearby. Her white cookies at Christmas were much-prized by the recipients. She left us all with memories that will make us smile for the rest of our lives.

Uba was buried at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil, IN, following a private family service on Sunday, April 16, 2023. It was her 100th birthday.
