William Purcell, 86, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 at his home in Center Point surrounded by his family. He was born on January 17, 1937 to the late William and Virginia (Baker) Purcell. Bill graduated from State High School in 1955, attended Indiana State University for his undergraduate degree before earned his Doctorate from Indiana University. He married Brenda Johnson on August 23, 1963, they are members of the Clay City Church of Christ. Bill taught at Wiley High School before going to work in the Registrar’s office at ISU where he worked for 30 years, after leaving the college he worked at First Financial Bank.
In his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and having coffee with the guys. He held a special place in his heart for veterans, often looking for ways to volunteer and help. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Purcell.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Purcell of Center Point; son, Matthew Purcell of Center Point; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with Bill’s cremation arrangements.
