Winnifred Knust, 89, went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 27, 2021 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Clay County on February 23, 1932 to the late David and Ruth (Bernhardt) McCullough. Winnie graduated in 1950 from Ashboro High School as the valedictorian, and married the love of her life Jack Knust on March 9, 1951. She received some additional education before going to work in the office at Chesty Foods, and later for the State of Indiana.
Winnie and Jack were lifelong members of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher as well as a lay leader. They were active in Farm Bureau, and she served as a board member. She and Jack were passionate about teaching youth about farming through the “Farming in the Classroom” outreach. Winnie enjoyed being pen pals with inner city children, and was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, Larry McCullough.
Survivors include, son, Larry (Linda) Knust of Brazil; daughters, Dixie (John) Haselden of Avon and Janis (Rick) Dorsey of Avon; brothers, Don (Isla) McCullough and Jack (Nancy) McCullough; sister-in-law, Betty McCullough; grandchildren, Tjaden (Ashley) Knust, Kegan (Lillian) Knust, John Dean (Abbie) Haselden, Kathryn (Andrew) Ayers, Jospeh Haselden, David Haselden, Cale Dorsey, Jaclyn (Mark) Molewyk and Neil (Anna) Dorsey; seven great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Private services will be held with burial at Mt. Calvary Van Cleve Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Calvary Van Cleve Cemetery Association.
